Our copying method requires fewer manual adjustments than theirs, although the two methods produce equally legible images. In a separate test, the texture of the paper used by our team differed from that of the paper used by the other team. The researchers recorded these distinctions without ranking the teams by skill. Fewer adjustments could make a method convenient for repeated copying, while a particular texture could be preferable for a different display purpose. Neither observation established that one method was superior for every task. The report kept the methods, the resulting images and the surfaces carrying those images as separate units of comparison.
